(On the other hand, with the RX series, I miss the optical zoom beyond 100mm.) I think I'd miss both of those things with the TZ100. I do like that camera a lot, especially because of its articulating LCD, and because it has a hot shoe. They make me want the TZ100 even more - but for now, I need to stay with my RX100 ii. I'm very tempted to get another 14-140 Mk II and get a range out to 560 using 2x izoom! Using izoom with my G80 & kit lens I can get use much higher iso's and the range goes 24 - 240 in 35mm terms so adequate for a lot of useage. It's a useful addition to the camera in my opinion, increasing the useable range to 25-500mm. If you look at the 400 iso izoom shot of the flowers (f5.9 and compare it to the 800 iso one it is much more detailed. Besides that my girlfriend has a Sony HX400v, so I leave the farther away shots for her (and start making videos). It might have to do with that I'm not the most steady photographer (I can't keep the camera steady) and that above 400mm the IS really is not up to par with my shakiness and that you notice that with the iZoom on (400-500mm) and not so much without it (200-250mm). However if I go above 400mm (up to 500mm) a lot of them are really blurred or noisy. These images tend to be pretty good most of the time. I already mentioned it a couple of times here, but from my own experience I only try to use iZoom (no Digital zoom) up to a maximum of 400mm. There are 4 images of the flower basket - One is 250mm optical zoom the other 500mm izoom at 400 iso, and then again at 800 iso. ![]() ![]() There are 4 images of the flower basket - One is 250mm optical zoom the other 500mm izoom at 400 iso, and then again at 800 iso.ĭigital zoom isn't quite as good as izoom at 2x and atrocious at 4x! One is 250mm optical zoom the other 500mm izoom. The izoom and Digital zoom images don't look too bad at normal screen sizes.įor the avoidance of doubt I haven't posted any digital zoom images - there are two shots of the car door at 800 iso. I find with my G80 that 2x digital is a very good image and thus the 12-60 kit lens is effectively 12-120mm. If it wasn't raining I'd go back outside and apply some exposure compensation as the white flowers are a bit blown but the remainder of the images are fine for demostrative purposes. I find that above that iso they aren't acceptable to me. Here are a few examples at 250m (optical zoom) & 500mm (izoom). ![]() I find izoom to 500mm quite acceptable on the TZ100, up to about 800 iso. I'm a bit busy with work at the moment, but I'll try to do it over Easter so watch this thread. Has anyone tested it out or read any thing about that possibility?Ĭan you post some samples of iZoom to 500mm or higher if possible? Thanks. Digital selected also may perhaps affect this too I've been reasonably happy with the izoom results in the 250-500 range but have often wondered if having it enabled has any degrading effect on the 24-240 segment of the zoom? I haven't noticed any. ![]() The lack of ultimate IQ at those lengths is often none too critical to me. This is useful to me as I use the camera mainly as a recording device when working as a building surveyor -shots of chimneys and roofs as an example. Despite having owned one of these for a bout 6 months now and having izoom enabled and saved as a custom setting, I've only just realised that you can enable digital zoom at the same time and that provides normal zoom up to 250mm, izoom up to 500mm and then digital zoom up to 1000mm in 35mm terms.
